Sometimes, you don’t read between the lines and that means that you do not get your deposit back from your landlord. This has been a common problem that I have heard about in several neighborhoods where I have been looking for apartments.
Coming from the Midwest, I’m a little bit surprised to find these kinds of details in the lease. However, I don’t necessarily think it’s a terrible idea for the landlords to put green and environmental requirements into the writing. The only problem I had was what to do about getting the deposit back. After all, I’m not really familiar with the kind of cleaning that was needed for that kind of project.
As someone who’s disabled, I clearly could not perform the labor task involved. It left me with a need for a $2000 – $4000 solution. Thankfully, I found my solution for less than $700. I can know that the apartment is going to be cleaned and it will be within the green requirements of the lease.
For this reason, I’m actually considering renting places that I had dismissed before. After all, I was worried about getting into some sort of unknown legal battle just because I am new and don’t understand all the rules. After learning more about green cleaning, I definitely feel a little bit better and now know that there are many companies with this kind of solution.
