How to Have a Tropical Wedding in Winter

by bogbit

Just because it’s snowing outside and the temperature might dip below freezing, there’s no reason that you can’t have your dream tropical wedding indoors. Here is how to turn up the heat at your ceremony and reception in the winter.

The Location
Though the beach and anywhere outdoors is obviously off limits, talk to local halls about your plans. Ask about additional fees to have the heat turned up and if they’d be willing to have a few unique extras for decorations.

The Decorations
Turn the room into a paradise by bringing in rugs, the color of sand, to cover the floors with. Buy large plastic pools online and fill them with sand. Bring in sculptures to create sculptures within them. Have a tiki bar set up, complete with little umbrellas for the drinks and all. Use a local artist to create custom murals to hang on the wall depicting scenes from your favorite vacation spot. Setting the mood is important to having a tropical wedding in winter.

The Food
Plan the menu as you would if you were getting married in the summer. A hog roast is usually a hit or have a lighter menu such as veggie appetizers and finger sandwiches. For drinks, serve fruity concoctions in staged cabana’s just like everyone would be drinking on a vacation in paradise. Make sure the bar is equipped with a few blenders to make them frosty.

The Attire
Put “Dress in Your Summer Best” on the invitations, unless you are doing a theme such as a lua which requires further direction. Everyone can bundle up until they get there and then enjoy a day of summer when it’s snowing outside.
