Having friends spend the night or sleeping over at a friend’s house is an enjoyable experience for most tweens, particularly girls. As the mother of a tween girl and boy, this author is aware of how much this particular age group enjoys having and attending sleepovers. Here are a few ideas for helping to host a fun and fulfilling sleepover for tween girls:
Have your daughter plan a menu that she and her friends enjoy.
Birthday sleepovers are special occasions, so allow your daughter to plan food choices that she and her friends enjoy. If you are like this author’s family who strives to eat in a healthy way most of the time, you can let loose a little on the nutritious reins as long as the parents of the girls attending are okay with it. However, you should pay special attention to any food allergies that any of the girls may have, and plan accordingly. For example, you would not want to serve ants on a log if you have a guest who is highly allergic to nuts.
Let your daughter choose sleepover activities that she and her guests would like.
If your daughter and her friends love to do arts and crafts, make sure that you have plenty of supplies on hand for this activity. If you recycle, your daughter and her guests could even use some of the recycled items to create upcycled masterpieces.
If your daughter and her friends enjoy doing manicures, pedicures, or makeovers, provide them with the necessary items to do these. This author’s family strives to use eco-friendly beauty products, so if you and your family are of the same conviction, check out environmentally friendly choices. Too, you may want to check with the parents of your daughter’s guests to make sure that none of your guests are allergic to certain types of beauty products.
Have your daughter plan games that she and her friends like to play.
Your daughter knows what games that she and her friends enjoy playing, so let her plan them accordingly. If you would like, you and your daughter can purchase or make inexpensive prizes to give out at the sleepover. Make sure that you have a prize for every guest, because each girl has her own special qualities and strengths that are worthy of reward.
Make sure that you have plenty of extra blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, and even air mattresses on hand.
Although most sleepover guests come prepared with all of their sleeping necessities, you may have one or two individuals who forget to bring a pillow, a blanket, or something of that nature. Be sure and have these items on hand, so that all of your guests can be comfortable and not feel awkward. Also, you and your daughter will want to plan where she and her guests will sleep and prepare that area ahead of time for everyone.
When you and your tween daughter are planning her next sleepover, you may want to keep these tips in mind. Have fun, and remember that your daughter and her friends are making memories that will last forever.
