Technology has made it possible to do virtually everything we could ever imagine. With new concepts coming out for the home each and every day it is possible to live a life of luxury even without spending a ton of money. Many of these ideas not only create great conversation pieces they provide a great deal of additional function to a home. Remote controlled blinds are one example of how luxury and conversation can be turned into something truly functional.
Why install remote controlled motorized blinds?
For many people the installation of remote controlled blinds would simply be for the sake of doing so. There are few people that will actually gain a functional benefit from the blinds other than ease of use. Many people however have areas that are often very difficult to reach because of large furniture or because of their height. There are many others that have limited mobility making their blinds something that seem almost impossible to reach at times. In these types of situations the remote controlled blind because less a topic of conversation and more a functional product with great application within a home.
Remote controlled blinds give users the ability to operate their blinds that would be difficult to operate without the use of the remote control. This means that blinds can be added to windows that are difficult to reach without losing the ability to let the light into the home on a regular basis. The remote gives those that have difficulty opening their own blinds the ability to do so without risk of causing injury. It is a great addition into a home where someone is elderly or handicapped. It also makes for a more uniform means of opening and closing the blinds without the common sag to one side that is seen when done manually.
How to install remote controlled blinds
There are two types of motorized blinds. There are the hard wired blinds and those that are powered by battery. Those that are powered by battery are relatively easy to install and are by far the most common blinds on the market. The hard wired blinds are a little more difficult to come by and are often times only available through special orders.
If the battery operated blinds are installed it is a pretty easy process. The mounting works much like any other blind system the only difference is that there is a motor being mounted along the top of the blinds. This motor is what will wind up the blinds so that they are pulled up automatically. With the battery powered blinds it is possible to mount either a wall control or use a remote control. Both are powered by battery and again installation isn’t much more difficult than installing normal blinds.
If hard wired blinds are being installed it is a good idea to have an electrician install the electrical connector that the blinds will wire directly into. This connector should be installed into a panel that can be hidden. Most of the time the panel is created along with an additional outlet. This allows for further potential functionality down the road should other electronics be needed in this location. If it is more important to be discreet then it is a good idea to attempt to wire above the motor. Doing this will allow the motor to hide the connection without any obvious signs that a connection exists. Again just like the battery operated blinds it is all about putting up the blinds like any other type of blind.
Notes on installation of motorized blinds
The motor that allows the blinds to move make blinds much heavier than standard blinds. It is a good idea to take special care when installing these blinds so that they don’t fall down and injure someone after installation. It is a good idea to use an anchor that allows for a heavier weight load to ensure that there are no problems down the road. By taking extra precaution early on it could avoid bigger issues down the road that could have been completely avoided.
If the blinds stop working and there is a battery installed it is a good idea to look at replacing the batteries. Keep in mind that the entire system is battery powered so batteries are going to need regular replacement to keep the system working. With most systems the ability to manually override them is still there whether the motor is running or not. This makes it easier to go without the batteries for a while if needed.
