“To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it’s about, but the inner music that words make.” Truman Capote
The mission of my life’s work is, and I live, to model love for living through the creation of original audio, video, print, and web content that inspires, informs, and entertains. When I am often asked where the inspiration come from my work, I thrill at the privilege to share a creative moment because I really never know how I am going to respond. All I really know is that whatever I say or do will conform to the mission of my life’s work is, and I live, to model love for living through the creation of original audio, video, print, and web content that inspires, informs, and entertains.
Inspired by Dreams
Inspiration arrives to me in a number of formats. I am often inspired by dreams. I have a very active dream life. Some requires therapy, obviously but much is the rich manna from the land beyond me and my own conscious awareness of myself that inspires me to capture the moment in words and images to the best of my ability.
Inspired by Meditation
Meditation is one pathway to inspiration. When I pursue inspiration through meditation, I position myself in a quite place. I quiet the noise. I restrain stimuli as much as possible so that what emerges can have clear travel to my consciousness.
One I have engaged the process, I wait. I do not rush the process. I do not make demands. I sit comfortable in the knowing that inspiration will come if I do not hinder it. When it arrives, I emerge from meditation and I begin to immediately write the inspiration or inspired idea.
Inspired by Walking
Walking always brings inspiration. Once while walking, I was inspired to see beautiful art work designed from the fragments of broken glass I noticed scattered about on the street.
Recently, I discovered a pair of pink panties a foot off the sidewalk where I walk in my neighborhood. I am a great one for mysteries. I was inspired to treat them as evidence.
After the evidence collection and providing all the available details to the discovery, I issued an invitation to other writers to share their own inspirations building on my own. Sixteen writers were inspired to respond.
Inspired By Life Experience
Many of the personal experiences of my life inspire my work. Theses are moment so f experiences or events, I paid little attention to them as they occurred but that took on meaning when they resurface as inspiration filled with story and meaning. Read my work of Crawford Fathers for three generations or my work Hard Times of the 20th Century Depression.
Personal life experiences are real and full of meaning. The meaning may come in the moment. Further meaning may not come until later. This brings me to my final major detail on creating from inspiration.
Inspiration Comes From Being an Attentive Observer
To be ready for and be aware of inspiration when it happens, it is necessary to pay attention to not only what is going on inside one’s own spiritual, emotional, and mental person; it is necessary to pay attention to what is going on in and around one’s life. Pay attention the conversations going on two tables over form you in the restaurant.
Notice the interaction of people when you are together with groups. Listen to the wind when you are outside. The sky is saying something in the daylight and in the dark. Are you a good listener?
This intentional trait is necessary to living the inspired life of creativity. Listen and observe and so much inspiration comes you will have to sort through and sift through it to see which will get your attention and your expression. The mission of my life’s work is, and I live, to model love for living through the creation of original audio, video, print, and web content that inspires, informs, and entertains.
