Whether it be asking a girl out on a date, making a good impression in a job interview, or seeming more comfortable on stage, knowing how to project confidence in everything you do is a great skill to know. Confidence can help you earn more money, be more persuasive, and just become more comfortable and happy with yourself. And the best part of it all? you can learn to look and feel more confident by doing only a few easy things.
1. Hold your head high
Did your Mother ever tell you to “chin up”? She was right; keeping your chin up and your head held high is one of the best ways to seem and become confident. A great way to practice this is to stand with your heels and shoulders against a wall. Now simply bring your head back until it touches. This is the “stance” you should always try to be in, and as I have already stated, it is one of the best ways to project confidence.
2. Shoulders back
Another one of the easiest and best ways to show confidence is to walk and stand with your shoulders comfortably back. Many of us unintentionally slouch as we go about our day, gradually bringing our shoulders further and further forward. This projects a defensive mindset, which you should try to avoid. Your goal is to look open and calm (in other words, to seem more confident), as if you are sure nothing is going to get in your way.
3. Walk and move slowly
We all know the one jittery guy who moves much too fast, even to simply turn his head. This guy never seems confident, which shows that this is a habit we need to avoid. Always do your best to move slowly and with purpose. Turn your head just a little bit slower, walk a little more leisurely; if you have trouble with this, it helps to focus on the above tips. They force your body to slow down and move more carefully.
4. Take up space
When you are sitting down, try to take up more space than usual. This means sit back and relax while still enjoying the conversation or whatever else is going on. This does not mean be the obnoxious jerk who spreads out all his limbs to get attention. That kind of guy tries to b confident so much that it is obvious, which you want to avoid. Again, try to project an open and calm posture.
If you ever get nervous while talking to someone, or begin to feel inferior when you want the opposite to occur, I have discovered a few quick tricks to help your confidence return. First of all,(and this applies all the time, not only when you are feeling down), hold eye contact. This can take a while to get used to, but you need to do it to seem confident. One warning, however, is to keep away from being a starer. Break eye contact every once in a while, but then regain it quickly.
Another tip is to focus on your breathing if you are feeling inferior. Try to send your breath as low in your lungs as possible. A common misconception is that when you push out your ribs and your chest, you seem more confident. Try to breathe down to your stomach instead, and take longer, deeper breaths. This is a very simple trick that you can use to greatly enhance your confidence.
These tips are used in order to appear more confident. However, Many scientific studies have revealed that if you act a certain way, you can become that way. An example of this is that smiling releases endorphins, chemicals that naturally make you feel happier. Therefore, if you are acting confident, chances are you will begin to feel more confident.
