The holiday season is quickly approaching and for many of us, is an exciting time. The holidays mean parties, family get-togethers and the opportunity to see many friends and family that we may not often see. The holiday season is a time where we want to look and feel our best. Although many people tend to want to lose weight before bikini season, just as many of us want to be fit in time for the holidays! Here are some easy, and some not so easy, weight loss tips just about anyone can do to get fit for the holidays and be camera ready.
As always, before starting any weigh loss or diet plan you should consult your doctor. Even amid the holiday rush, be sure to be sensible and go over any and every weight loss plan with your physician. That being said, we are ready to start losing weight! The best place to start losing weight is to take a good look and see what your eating and what your activity habits are now. Are you grabbing unhealthy snacks from the vending machine when hunger strikes? Is your first inclination to settle into the cozy chair as soon as you get home? Especially during the long winter days before the holidays, people tend to stick to their living room and the soft, warm glow of the television. Knowing your habits is the best start to changing the unhealthy ones.
Diet is a big part of weight loss. But you don’t have to completely change your diet in order to lose weight, especially when all that amazing holiday food is available! But you do have to make wise choices. When you go grocery shopping, instead of getting all excited at the sight of egg nog and holiday cookies and throwing both into your cart, resist! You don’t have to be all grinch about it. But choose one instead of the other. Maybe choose just the egg nog without the cookies. Better yet, choose the lower fat egg nog. This won’t make the pounds just disappear, but it will help. You don’t have to ignore the holiday food, but be sensible.
Trade your soda and maybe even your latte drinking habits. Everyone knows that soda is not the best choice when it comes to refreshment, but you really have to stop just thinking about it and decide to just not drink the liquid killer. The amounts of syrup and sugar are disgusting and will inflate you quicker than a kids blow up inner tube. On the flipside though, if you quite cold turkey you’re bound to lose a few pounds quickly without even doing anything else- that should put anyone into the holiday spirit! For you coffee drinkers, what exactly are you consuming? One cup of 8 ounces of black coffee only has about 5 calories, but what about the double caramel latte? That one drink may contain as many calories as your entire lunch! Always, really, always, keep bottled water handy. Not only will it help you avoid getting thirsty and being tempted into unhealthy drink choices, but staying hydrated also wards off hunger.
Exercise! This is critical for losing weight! Especially during the holiday months when people tend to stay indoors and the weight piles on. Getting out and moving will go a long way in shedding pre holiday weight. But if that’s not possible or realistic, don’t quit that quickly! There are countless weight loss DVDs out there and even many games made for the Xbox and the wii to help you get fit. There is no excuse for not exercising if you’re serious about losing weight in time for the holidays.
Whether you find these tips easy or hard to follow one thing is for sure, if you follow them, you will lose weight. Keep your goals in mind and keep that water bottle handy so you will be picture perfect just in time for the holidays!
