Sometimes life can be maddening, can’t it? Troubles arise, people let you down, you feel alone and sad. You know what can sometimes cheer you up or give you peace in your heart? Prayer! Make a prayer journal for kids – or yourself – and the owner of the book will always have his or her favorite prayers on hand. It’s easy to make the book and there are several ways to make it.
Decide on the cover you want for the prayer journal. A sheet of craft foam works well to make a colorful journal cover that can then be decorated. You’ll find the inexpensive foam sheets at any craft store. Simply fold a piece in half and it will become the book cover.
Select the paper or tablet you want to use inside the journal. You have several choices. You can choose beautiful stationery and glue it to the inside of the foam cover. Or, you can just buy a table – one where the pages tear out from the side – and glue the entire table inside. Or, you can print the prayers you want on your computer then stack them and glue them inside the book cover.
After folding the foam in half, crease it really well, then open it back up and lay it out flat. Apply the adhesive along the fold. Position the paper or tablet in the glue and allow it to set or dry. Now you can do any number of things to create the look you want for the finished journal.
Use a separate foam piece to cut out a cross shape to put on the front or just use a marker to write “Prayers” on the front. Glue on fake jewels, small-diameter roping, sequin, buttons – any number of supplies. Use things you have on hand or purchase a few inexpensive items from a craft store.
Keep the journal closed by gluing lengths of narrow ribbon to the sides of the journal. Glue one on the front and one on the back, with the glue on the inside, and the ribbon positioned so that it’s in the center and at the edge. Tie and untie the ribbon to access the journal.
If you have no foam to use for the cover you can use thin cardboard instead. Cover it with fabric, contact paper, stenciled lettering or other decorating methods. Glue the paper inside as with the foam journal.
Don’t need a prayer journal? Make a journal containing your favorite poems, recipes, or just make a diary-type book. It’s nice to have the journal you want on hand so you can easily access your favorite inspirations, jokes – anything!
