‘Tis the season for crisp caramel dunked apples, hot spiced cider, rich chocolate candies and savory salty pumpkin seeds! Fall is my very favorite time of year and so to celebrate the season, I am hosting an apple dipping extravaganza and here is my plan:
For my apple dipping party, I will invite family and friends to dress in fall colors and bring along an autumn treat. If you are really creative, consider hand crafting an invitation with a fall theme. Then, adorn the tables with oversized clear glass bowls and vases chock full of red, pink and green apples along with an array of pumpkins and gourds. And finally, construct a fully loaded, self serve, apple dipping station.
For a successful and scrumptious apple dunking station, purchase three to four sacks of apples as well as a few 14 ounce bags of caramel candies. Unwrap all of the candies and then place them in a crock pot and add a half of a cup of milk. Cook on a medium setting for an hour or so and stir often.
You will also need to purchase a large sleeve of plastic bowls that you will probably find at a local party supply store. These bowls are perfect for not only housing the apple slices, but also for all of the tasty trimmings and they are reasonably priced and a real time saver when it comes to clean-up. Next, cut the apples into wedges and place three to four in each bowl. Stack the apple bowls near the crock pot so the guests can grab one and go.
Now, fill the apple dipping station bowls with M&Ms, mini marshmallows, crushed nuts, butterscotch or white chocolate morsels, colorful sprinkles and tiny nonpareils. Be sure to include a spoon with each yummy selection. You may not even need to provide your guests with forks, since most will enjoy eating their apple treats with their sticky fingers.
For any apple dipping event, you can also employ a fondue kit and melt the caramels the same way you would with a crock pot. And for either melting method, if your caramel is too hard, then zap it in the microwave for a few minutes. At your apple dipping party, you can also incorporate bobbing for apples, apple pies a la mode, cider, apple martinis and much more!
