During the Fall season many homeschoolers look for fun themed projects they can do with their kids. What most homeschoolers want are activities that are not only fun but are also educational. An apple globe is a fun project you can make with your children, and the best part is that it is an edible project. Making an apple globe together is really a great way to help your children learn the names of the different countries, and where they are located. Below you will find simple instructions on how you can make this apple globe with your kids.
The first thing you will need to do is gather all of your supplies together. You will need one nice red apple, food coloring (of various colors), small paint brush, half a stick of butter, and map of the earth stencil. You can usually find the map of the earth stencil at your local arts, and craft store. If you can not find it at your local arts, and craft store, you can look online. You will also need about a cup of confectionary sugar. The first thing you will want to do is mix you’re icing which you are going to put on your apple.
Start mixing the half stick of butter in the microwave. You can easily melt the butter in a plastic dish in the microwave. You do not have to melt the butter completely. You can instead just heat it up until the butter becomes soft enough to mix. Next you will want to start by adding a few drops of the food coloring to the butter. Add the confectionary sugar and blend well. Keep blending until the icing is just the right texture. Next hold the stencil on the side of the apple. If you want you can hold the stencil on the apple and have your child focus on painting on top of the stencil. You can really use any color that you would like. The point is to make the colors really stand out on the apple. As they trace the states using the stencil, you can point out what country they are drawing. Eventually you will end up with your little apple globe all finished. When they are all done, you can slice the apple one country at a time. As they eat each country you can look up some information online and read it together.
