If you love anything and everything to do with roses you probably still don’t know the half of it! A rose is much more than just a beautiful flower. It’s aroma therapy, a bath additive, home décor, a thoughtful gift. Use bunches of roses to make flower arrangements or give a single rose to someone you love. Use them to decorate nearly any room of the house or just to emit one of the most luscious fragrances ever created. Yes, a rose is much more than a flower.
Do you enjoy making cakes, pastries and other desserts? If so, you can give these special desserts the beautiful look of roses. The rose embellishments, although beautiful, are much more than they seem when you serve them on desserts. They’re actually part of the food! Edible roses are the pefect way to create a memorable but inexpensive wedding cake or to impress your friends who are coming over next week!
Although rose petals are definitely edible most people don’t simply pick them and eat. The first and most important thing to consider when deciding to eat rose petals is the treatment the roses have had. Roses from a supermarket or floral shop are absolutely not edible. These flowers have been treated with pesticides and cannot be eaten. However, if you grow roses, and they’ve never been treated with pesticides, you’ve got edible rose petals!
Although you can eat roses petals just like they are, after they’ve been cleaned, of course, you can make them much more appetizing if you give them a special treatment. First, pluck the petals from around the flower. Wash the petals well, being careful not to tear them, and lay them out on paper toweling to dry. At the lighter part of the petal, where it used to connect to the main flower, cut this portion off. It can taste very bitter so this is an important step.
Whisk an egg white and use it to paint each petal. Sprinkle ordinary sugar on the petal, leave it on a minute, then turn upside-down to remove the excess. Lay the petals on a cookie sheet, covered with wax paper, until ready to serve. If it will be awhile before you serve them cover with another sheet of wax paper.
Rose petals are so beautiful, and since they’re also edible, they’re perfect for creating a gorgeous and delicious accent on top of cakes, a dish of ice cream and other desserts. They’re scrumptious!
