Scented organza sachets make a nice “girlfriend gift” or to use around your own home. They are also relatively easy to make and can be customized to suit different tastes.
What follows are directions to make your own lavender scented organza potpourri sachet. Remember that the sachet can be personalized so feel free to substitute what is listed with your own favorite scented potpourri and colors.
To complete this craft project you will need to gather the following items; lavender springs and buds (store bought potpourri or homegrown), white and purple silk flowers, iron and ironing board, scissors, hot glue gun and clear glue sticks, tape measure or wooden ruler, pins, ¼ yard lavender silk organza, dry scoop, needle and lavender thread, sewing machine and lavender colored organza ribbon.
All of these items can be purchased for relatively little money at either your local craft or dollar-type store.
Step One: Preparing the Materials
Begin the craft by taking a tape measure or wooden ruler and measuring the fabric into two 7″ x 7″ inch squares. Once you are sure that the measurements are accurate take your scissors and carefully cut out the squares.
Next, take the two squares, line them up on top of each other and attach them to one another with pins. Be sure to pin the squares securely on all sides before attempting to lift the squares.
Step Two: Sewing the Sachets
Place the pinned squares onto your sewing machine and sew with a ¼ inch seam allowance being sure to leave a 2 inch opening that will be used to fill the sachet with the lavender.
Once the squares are sewed together as directed, turn them inside out and press them with a low temperature iron. Too hot of an iron will scorch or otherwise damage the fabric.
Step Three: Stuffing the Sachets
Proceed by taking out the dry scoop and lavender potpourri and buds. Dip the scoop into the lavender and deposit lavender into the organza sachet until the sachet is completely full.
Step Four: Sealing the Sachet
Take your needle and thread and sew the 2 inch hole on the sachet shut. Next take a piece of organza ribbon and organize how you would like the ribbon to appear on the sachet. Some people like to wrap the sachet with the ribbon and then tie off the ribbon into a bow.
Once you are done arranging the ribbon as desired take out the hot glue gun, glue sticks and silk flower. Affix the silk flower along with a few extra sprigs of lavender to the organza ribbon with the hot glue gun. Allow the glue to dry before moving the sachet around too much.
When the glue dries your sachet is ready to be wrapped up as a gift or used in your own closet or clothes drawer.
