Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Even if you don’t live in an area that gets snow, you can turn your home into a winter wonderland by making paper snowflakes. Remember those from grade school? These are fun to make and great for the kids to keep boredom at bay. So grab your paper and your scissors and make some paper snowflakes for your home!
Paper Snowflakes: What You’ll Need
Use plain white copy paper to make these simple snowflakes. The only other item you will need is your favorite pair of scissors and of course your creativity (which you probably keep with you always).
Paper Snowflakes: How to Make
Start by folding the sheet of paper in half, turn, then fold in half again. This creates a small square.
You should hold the folded paper by the corner fold. Fold the edges inward together to form a triangle. Your paper will look like a diamond. You will need to cut the top corner off to create a long triangle.
Next you will begin to make the cutouts for the paper snowflake. Start with the corner fold–cut it straight across, as a triangle or rounded–this cut creates the center of the snowflake. On the other sides–the three sides of the triangle–you can make cuts in any shape that you like. Experiment with various cuts and shapes and be creative.
Now unfold the paper and look at the unique snowflake you have made–remember no two are just alike! Cut a full sheet of paper in half and follow the same instructions to create a smaller snowflake. Make several of these with different designs to create great decorations for your home. Paper snowflakes can be tapes to your windows, hung on your Christmas tree, or on a bulletin board. Tie or tape a piece of string to one side and hang them from your ceiling. Decorate them with glitter glue to add more personality to each snowflake.
Make these paper snowflakes as a great way to pass time on a snowy day or in preparation for a holiday celebration, and you don’t even need to get cold or go outside to enjoy the snow!
