Desk clutter getting you down? If so, look up and see if there’s a space above the desk that will accommodate an 18 inch, decorative wall mounted desk organizer that is a simple DIY project using recycled cans.
Materials Needed To Make Wall Mounted Desk Organizer
*1 piece of 1×4 wood cut 18 inches long
*5 empty food cans in various sizes (must be no more than 16 inches wide when placed side by side)
*Strong, permanent glue
*White spray primer
*White acrylic paint
*Decorative paper (scrap book paper or wall paper to cover cans)
*5 – ½ inch wood screws
* 2 – 2 inch screws or other appropriate hanging hardware for wall mounted desk organizer
Decorate the Recycled Cans for Wall Mounted Desk Organizer
Start with clean, dry, recycled foods cans (labels removed) and spray paint them with white spray primer. Cover tops, sides and bottoms of the cans completely. When the primer is dry, measure height and diameter of each can and cut decorative paper to fit each can. Glue paper to cans and set aside for glue to dry.
Prepare the 18 Inch Long Back Board
If planning to directly attach the back board to the wall, drill two holes in the back board on each end, ½ inch from end and two inches down from top. If another hanging method is desired, make holes for the hardware in the back board at this stage of the DIY project.
Paint the back board with white acrylic paint and let dry completely.
Attach the Decorated Cans to the Back Board
Line up the cans in an eye-pleasing arrangement and glue them to the back board. Tops of cans should be even with the back board top. When the glue has dried, drill or punch (with nail and hammer) a small hole at the top center of each can. Screw cans securely to back board by inserting one of the ½ wood nails into the top holes and screwing into place.
Hanging the Wall Mounted Desk Organizer
Locate and mark wall studs before hanging the desk organizer. Place the 2 inch long screws into the holes on each end of the back board and screw each end directly into the wall stud. If other hanging hardware is being used, measure and mark both the wall location and the back side of the back board, then attach hangers to the back board and hang the desk organizer.
This simple, cheap DIY project will de-clutter the desk and keep everything handy in a wall mounted desk organizer.
