One of the reasons diets fail is people lose interest. The same low fat meals begin to get boring after a while and your exercise routine is about as interesting as a documentary on Egypt. It doesn’t have to be this way. Whether you’re having trouble with your eating plan or exercise routine, there are ways to make losing weight more interesting. Say goodbye to your boring diet and hello to a more interesting weight loss plan.
Get a Diet Buddy
It can be hard, and eventually boring, to attempt weight loss on your own. Having a diet buddy gives you someone to share your ups and downs with. While your husband may not be interested in learning about a new diet trick you just learned or how many pounds you’ve lost, a diet buddy is there to offer support when you need it. Not to mention that you can share new ideas with each other and set goals together. Of course, having a diet buddy is only the first step to prevent boredom when losing weight.
Try New Recipes
The same recipes day in and day out will begin to get boring. When losing weight, you need a large arsenal of recipes to keep your body and mind satisfied. With your diet goals in mind, go online and search for new recipes that meet your dietary needs. Trying at least one new recipe each week is a great way to prevent boredom. Look for recipes that also incorporate new foods, such as new vegetables, lean meats or grains that you’re not familiar with. Giving your body variety is the key to sticking to your weight loss plan.
Exercise With Your Diet Buddy
That afternoon walk can get lonely and boring after a while. Walking with a friend is completely different. You may even find that you’re able to walk farther, while you’re chatting away about favorite TV shows or that latest recipe you’ve tried. The reason is that you’re not thinking about each step you’re taking. Instead, your brain is focused on something more interesting. Therefore, it’s easier to keep going.
Change Up Your Exercise Routine
If you find yourself dreading your exercise routine, it may be time to find something new. Remember, exercise doesn’t have to be boring. Hiking, dancing, playing exercise video games, gardening and even playing with your children can be a great workout. You don’t have to get on a treadmill everyday in order to lose weight. Shake things up and always have new ideas available to prevent boredom.
Have a Backup Plan
Boredom can easily creep in if you find your plans ruined. For example, if your diet buddy can’t make it for your nightly walk, have a play list of your favorite songs loaded on your MP3 player. If the weather is too bad to go for a walk, have your favorite exercise video game ready to go at home. And, if you can’t make dinner at home one evening, have a list of healthy options available at local restaurants so you don’t end up eating the same boring meal.
Make Losing Weight Fun
As with most things in life, losing weight is only as fun as you make it out to be. Losing weight is one of those things that needs to be fun though. While different recipes, exercise routines and a diet buddy can go a long way to preventing boredom, a reward system can make losing weight fun. Set goals for yourself and then offer a reward. For example, if you lose 5 pounds go buy a new pair of shoes. When losing weight is fun, and you get to go shopping, it’s hard to get bored.
