As the internet has led to an increase in interstate commerce so has the need for shipping goods longer distances. This increase in shipping demands has created unusual complications for those that are attempting to ship more unusual items. For most items simply placing them in a box with a little packaging material is more than enough to do the trick but for other items doing the same thing would cause them to become damaged or destroyed altogether. Understanding how to properly package an item for shipping can make all the difference in the condition it arrives in.
How to ship a hat
Hat shipping can either be really easy or extremely difficult depending upon the type of hat that is being sent. The first thing that needs to be considered when shipping a hat is the value of the hat and the level of protection required. For most hats, extreme protection isn’t really necessary. Knowing the level of protection needed can make a major difference in the overall cost of shipping the hate. Obviously the more extreme the protection the more the cost will rise.
If the hat is just a simple hat and the goal is maintaining form then simply stuffing the inside of the hate with newspaper and throwing it in a box should be more than enough to keep it from getting damaged during shipping. If the hate is more specialized much more care is going to need to be taken during the shipping process.
For a hat that requires a great deal of care and protection it is a good idea to ship the hat in a custom hat box. If this isn’t available it can be created. To do this simply take a piece of foam that is the size of the box that the hat is going to be placed in. Cut down the foam so that there is a bump in the middle of it. This bump is going to be used to hold the hat in place so that it isn’t shifting around. The foam should be cut in a manner that gives support to the top of the box. If the box can be easily pressed down in the middle then the walls of the foam aren’t adequate enough to keep the hat from becoming damaged. By using foam it is a less expensive option for securing a hate for same shipping.
Another method of shipping a hat safely is by shipping it directly inside of a hat box. These boxes are typically made of stronger materials and are created for the purpose of protecting valuable hats. Shipping inside of a box of this nature can make a major impact on the successful shipping of a hat.
If the hat is expensive enough it may be a good idea to have it insured. Understandably some hats are going to have sentimental value and insurance isn’t going to be able to cover that aspect of any loss. It is still a good idea to attach some value to the hat just in case something were to go wrong. By packaging the hat in foam or in a hat box it should reduce the chances of damage considerably but damage always has to be considered as it is impossible to determine how packages will be handled while in transit.
