So it’s time to remodel the kitchen in your townhouse. Typically, townhouse kitchens do not have a lot of room. Creating an illusion of a larger kitchen is often the aim of remodeling a kitchen in a townhouse. When seeking to improve the size of a kitchen, keep in mind that dark-colored walls can make the kitchen look and feel small. Dark accent items work well in a townhouse kitchen, but the amount of dark accents should be limited as too many dark-colored accent items will make the kitchen feel small.
Things you’ll need
Glass cabinet doors
Paint the ceiling a light ceiling paint color; for example, white or light beige. Before painting, cover your cupboards and all appliances in the townhouse kitchen with plastic. This protects your appliances from the paint. Roll your paint roller in paint and apply it to the ceiling. Paint the edges of the ceiling with your paint and paintbrush.
Paint your kitchen walls in your preferred paint color. Light paint colors work well in smaller kitchens, such as townhome kitchens, to create an illusion of an open, airy room.
Replace your window treatments with curtains. Select over-sized curtains to create the illusion of a larger kitchen window. Hang curtains in their designated area.
Remove your cabinet doors with your screwdriver. Unscrew the hinges holding the doors in place and install glass cabinet doors.
Install a glass-tiled backsplash in your kitchen according to the manufacturer’s directions. A glass-tiled backsplash reflects light, creating a feeling of a larger kitchen.
Purchase a peg board and install peg board hooks on the board. Select a wall in the kitchen for the peg board and hang it. Hang small kitchen items, such as a spatula or small fry pan, from the hooks for additional storage.
Lay an area rug under your kitchen table. Placing an area rug under the table both creates the feeling of a larger space and decorates your kitchen.
Remove your current appliances and install new ones. Take into account the amount of space you have in your kitchen when selecting your appliances. You may wish to consider purchasing smaller-sized appliances to create additional space in the kitchen.
