Did you accidentally get gum in your hair? Have you tried everything, but you still can’t get the gum out? Almost everyone has run into this problem at some point, especially if you have children, but there are many solutions to this common problem. Here are some ways to remove gum from hair…
I have used this method plenty of times and it works like a charm every time. Most types of oil will work pretty well for this, so you can use olive oil, baby oil, or mineral oil. You just put some oil on and around the piece of gum that’s in the hair. Once you put the oil in, this should allow you to be able to slide the piece of gum out of the hair quite easily. You can also get a comb and slowly comb the gum out of the hair.
An alternative to the oil is margarine. This also has an oily feel to it and will make the gum slide out of the hair. Get a decent chunk of margarine and rub it into the area where the gum is in the hair. You can then slide the gum out or comb it out.
Peanut butter is also a very popular and effective method of getting gum out of hair. The peanut butter will also allow for the gum to just slide out of hair. Put a fair amount of peanut butter on the piece of gum that’s in the hair. You can then begin to slide the gum out of the hair or you can get a comb and try to comb it out.
Putting ice up to a piece of gum in the hair will make it harden. To do this you should get an ice cube and hold it up to the piece of gum for a few minutes or until you feel that the piece has gotten hard. Once it hardens, you can then break it off.
An obvious option is to cut the hair off. Getting a haircut because of gum is what most people want to avoid. This is a good excuse to get a new haircut, but this all depends on how close the gum is to the scalp. Don’t cut off a chunk of hair if it’s close to the scalp because it may look like a bald spot.
Mayonnaise is also oil based, so it will have a similar effect to the gum that’s in the hair as the oil did. Mayonnaise will allow the gum to slide out pretty easily. Just rub some mayonnaise around the gum and the hair near the gum, and then gently slide the gum out or comb it out.
