Whether you keep your car in the garage or only park it there occasionally it is likely that at some point the garage floor will end up with oil stains. Oil stains are definitely a bad thing for any garage floor. In addition to an oil stain making the garage floor look messy the oil could also be tracked into the house and get on the carpet. Oil stains could even be dangerous if the toxins released in the oil were to get into the house.
Fortunately oil stains oil stains are very easy to remove and only require products that are probably already in every home. The two products that can be used to remove oil stains easily are baking soda or Dawn.
Baking soda is an amazing product that can be used for a lot of things and cleaning oil stains from the garage floor is just one of those things. Start off by getting a cloth and dampening it with water. Then rub the oil stain with the dampened cloth in order to get the area wet. Once the area with the oil stain is wet pour some of the baking soda onto the wet area.
The baking soda needs to sit for a while. While you are waiting for the baking soda to sit you can go into the kitchen and boil a pot of water. Once the water has boiled you are going to pour the boiled water onto the oil stain but be careful not to burn yourself on the hot water. After the boiled water has been poured, wait for the water to cool down and then use a bristle brush to scrub the area with the oil stain. If the stain is real bad then you may have to repeat the process more than once.
The method of using Dawn is even easier. Simply use a cloth to wet the area of the oil stain like with the baking soda. Squirt some Dawn onto the oil stain and start scrubbing with a bristle brush. Dawn is extremely strong for a dishwashing soap so it will clean the oil better than most house-cleaning products. After the oil stain has been scrubbed rinse away the soap with some water and enjoy your clean garage floor.
