Are you tired of getting attacked by mosquitoes when you are outside? Mosquito bites can be exceptionally irritating and cause multiple days of uncomfortable itchiness. Here are some tips to keep them away from you…
Clean Up
Mosquitoes lay their eggs in water, such as ponds or water that has accumulated. Mosquitoes can lay a ton of eggs at once and once these hatch there will be a ton more of them and this cycle will continue. Make sure to check any type of area that could hold water.. Look on tarps that could hold some water, buckets, etc. Make sure to empty small swimming pools! Many people forget about this great source of water, but this can become a mosquito larvae haven.
Bug spray
Quite obviously this is a common option. You can buy bug spray at most stores, which you can just spray right on you and it’ll keep the bugs off of you.
Avoid Perfume
Perfume and fruity smelling scents will attract mosquitoes and consequently cause them to bite you more since you smell so delicious.
Citronella
Burning Citronella candles is a very common and popular way of repelling mosquitoes. Mosquitoes do not like the smell of these. Citronella also comes in oil form, which mosquitoes equally hate. If you want to use a candle, make sure that you are using a citronella candle. Some people commonly think that using any candle will create fire and smoke and repel the mosquitoes. This isn’t true, if the candle smells pleasing to the mosquitoes, like most sweet and fruity ones do, mosquitoes will actually be attracted to the candle and all the people around it.
Plants
There are actually plants that mosquitoes do not like and will stay away from. If you are having troubles sitting on your patio during the evenings or night hours, you can try planting some of the repelling plants around the area. Some of these plants include, marigolds, rosemary, lemon grass, catnip, and neem trees.
Oils
Mosquitoes and many other kinds of bugs do not like many types of oils, such as rosemary oil, citronella oil, cinnamon oil, amongst may others.
Fire
Mosquitoes do not like smoke from fires. You would have to be near a bonfire or a relatively large fire that is producing a good deal of smoke for this to work. Candles do not produce enough smoke to keep mosquitoes away. Not only will the smoke keep mosquitoes away from you, but the smoke will also keep most all bugs away
Fish
If you have a small pond or water source in your yard, mosquitoes will lay their eggs in the water, which will lead to many more mosquitoes. You can buy minnow fish for the water. These minnow fish will eat the mosquito larvae in the water, which will drastically cut down on the amount of mosquitoes in the area.
