When it comes to what is the best for the environment, I am an advocate for using cloth diapers on babies. This is what I used on my daughter, and with diaper services available these days, the choice to go all natural is much easier than it used to be.
However, my daughter wanted disposable diapers, and so far we have purchased or been given Pampers, Luvs, and Huggies diapers for preemies and newborns. I want to tell you about our experience with Huggies Little Snugglers Supreme diapers for newborn babies.
We have the red bag, containing 36 diapers, in the “N” size, meaning newborn. These can be used on babies up to ten pounds, or 4.5 kg. The bag shows an illustration of the special cut out front, which is meant to cover the baby without covering the umbilical cord. They call it “Gentle Umbilical Cord Care”. The diapers we have are covered with Winnie The Pooh characters, such as Pooh Bear and Tigger.
Just like with the Pampers diapers we bought, I see that the Huggies Little Snugglers Supreme diapers also have a wetness indicator, which is a pale green strip, that runs along the center of most of the diaper. It is supposed to change color when the diaper gets wet, and maybe we aren’t letting our newborns diaper get wet enough, but this aspect of the diaper didn’t work for us.
These diapers also have a “Pocketed Back Waistband” that is styled to keep in the poops and pees. Likewise there is elastic around the legs which should also help with leaking issues. At first glance, the Huggies Little Snugglers Supreme look thicker than the Pampers or Luvs diapers, but we are all very disappointed in the performance of the Huggies.
The elastic around the legs seems to be uneven, and they are hard to get into the leg area of our baby. We find that these diapers leak much more than our Pampers, and this has happened with every Huggies diaper that we have changed. It’s bad enough to change a diaper when a baby hates the process and screams through it, but it’s even worse when her outfit gets wet due to a leaking diaper and we have to change her clothes as well.
Our family gives Huggies Little Snugglers Supreme two thumbs down. We don’t like the way they fit, they tend to slide down our babies body, and they do leak on a consistent basis. Considering the “wetness indicator” never changed, you would think these wouldn’t be wet enough to leak, but yet they did. Based on my experience, these are not a diaper that I can recommend, based on the use of the newborn size.
