Hugo Chavez is a funny man. He recently stated that no entity in Venezuela can use his name or image in any fashion…except for speaking his name. Otherwise, the written or visual application of his name in civic, government or regular community use is forbidden without his governments consent. The reason…”
to preserve the honor and dignity of the Presidency.” to preserve What dignity or What honor?
This is the same leader that has broken the will of his countries citizens…vehemently speaks out against the United States… and pontificates a false democracy to the rest of the world. Chavez is on the same par as Saddam Hussein when it comes to what he allows and what he outlaws.
His constant censorship of the media in Venezuela speaks to the outlandish claims of open dialog and his attacks upon the church are known around the world. As one English Immigration judge put it, when presiding over the case of a young Venezuelan couple seeking asylum in Britain, “… President Chavez, officials in his administration and members of his political party consistently attacked the independent media, the political opposition, labour unions, the courts, the church and human rights groups .”
Chavez is in no position to claim that his office has any dignity or honor. His record speaks to the truth of his legacy and this ban on using his image or name, without his direct agreement, is just another example of a dictator at work.
As stated before…Hugo Chavez is a funny man.
