Hawaii is a major tourist destination. Hawaii is known for its natural beauty, volcanoes, mountains, and beaches. There are many local secrets they do not want the haloes to know about. Most of these secrets are surfing spots, or trails. However one spot is a food spot.
While Hawaii is very expensive and that includes the food there is one spot in Hawaii that is a local secret food spot that is cheap and one of the best on the islands. The Hukilau Cafe may not look like much on the outside but its the food that it serves that matters.
The Hukilau Cafe is located at 55-662 Wahinepe’s Street on the Island of Oahu on the North Shore in Laie Hawaii. If you are going though be sure to bring cash since the Hukilau Cafe does not accept credit cards.
The Hukilau Cafe tries to be as traditional Hawaiian as it can be. The patrons are mostly locals and can be very friendly or quiet depending on how you are with them. The food is not what you will get at most cafes. The food is all Hawaiian. The Hukilau Cafe only serves breakfast and lunch with the breakfast being the more popular time and their main meal.
One of the things that meals are famous for is the gravy that they put on most meals. You should make sure to order a meal with the gravy. The meals are good portions after all they have to be able to feed the locals. While all the meals are great the most famous is the Loco Moco which is an amazing $7 which is reasonable in the states and a steal in Hawaii. The Loco Moco is a beef patty, fried egg, rice, and covered in the Hukilau Cafe island famous gravy. The beef taste different to most. Most people enjoy the meat but there are occasionally people who do not like the different taste then what they expect from a beef patty.
Many people stop in on vacation after hearing about the Hukilau Cafe and end up eating every meal here they can. Part of that might be the low prices for the Island but it is probably also for the food.
