If you are a freelance writer looking to work from home there are several points to consider. Primarily, you will need to know the best way to find work. Several options are available for outsourcing your work but figuring out how to obtain the work and get paid can be a challenge. Not so when you choose Elance for freelancing.
As a writer, I am rather picky about my work, all of my writing is original and personally researched so the end result will always be high quality writings for my clients. With that being said, it is reasonable that I would expect to be compensated fairly for completed assignments. Using Elance to outsource my work ensures just that since I choose my price when my bid is submitted.
As a part-time or full-time freelancer it is imperative to be able to easily search for jobs of interest and have the ability to set your own schedules for both time and payment. Elance provides a perfect solution to achieve both with their integrated, fully customizable job search function. Once you find a job or jobs that interest you, their bid submission process is second to none, allowing the provider to choose their price and turnaround time for the job.
There are fourteen sub-categories on Elance for writers within the “Writing and Translation” category. This is most beneficial to freelancers when looking for work because it allows you to tailor your job search to meet specific criteria and find jobs that best suit your ability and your pay scale. As if that weren’t enough, Elance’s job search feature also allows you to create specific searches and “save” them for fast access to your own specific job criteria.
For example, I have created a saved search that I named “Jobs Ending Quick” which allows me to login into my Elance account and search for posted jobs that interest me and are closing for bids within 24 hours. This allows me to locate available writing assignments that will be closing fairly quickly hence providing more control over my schedule. This is an essential feature for me with a part-time work schedule.
Elance offers quality employment opportunities and easy access to those jobs with their job search feature. If you find yourself in a hurry and want to quickly scan through available jobs, no problem, when you see a job post or even a few posted jobs that peek your interest but do not have the time at that moment to submit a bid proposal, you may add them to your “watch list” and immediately retrieve them when you have an opportunity to submit your proposal.
Anyone can type “freelance writing job” into an internet search engine and retrieve hundreds of results linking you to sites that promise payment for your writing. The truth is, there are many sites where a freelancer can get paid for their content, the amount of money you will be paid remains highly debatable, as well as the quality of work these sites have to offer. Many sites it seems are geared more toward the site administrators to earn money, not for the writers of the content. If you are truly interested in earning money through writing and want to create original content that employers will be happy to pay for, Elance provides an experience that is second to none.
How can I make that statement with such conviction? It’s simple, I have done my research. Many of the opportunities I looked into landed me on website pages that were not easily navigable nor were they at all clear about what a writer truly needed to accomplish prior to securing a job.
A few sites I explored were outright deceptive about potential “part-time or full-time” earnings. There was one I found that requires you to create content ahead of time about topics that interest you, they then receive full rights to your content and if they have a request that meets the criteria for your work, you may receive payment whenthey sell your content, it remains a mystery to me how you protect your interests with such practices. This leaves you without any control over getting paid for your time nor does it allow access to the employers that have posted requests.
I reviewed another site which allows you to view a list of jobs that are open for bidding but requires that you submit an article to them for “approval” prior to allowing you to submit a bid to an employer and if they decide your writing does not meet the employers criteria, they reject your submission altogether without ever allowing you any contact with the employer, what’s worse is that they also delete your content from their server leaving you without any content for your profile. It seems this practice is neither beneficial to the “provider” nor the “employer.”
Honestly, when I first began to consider freelance writing for pay, I hastily opened my Elance account in February 2009, and within a week of doing so I was forced to put my aspirations on hold due to some circumstances beyond my control. Once the heavy demands in my personal life had subsided, I failed to return to Elance to complete my profile. That was wholly based on the fact that I had been mislead from reading a negative review about Elance on another writers blog. Again, in haste I chose to seek an alternative solution, only to discover after several failed attempts elsewhere, that decision was a big mistake. It did however teach me some valuable lessons. Those lessons are precisely why I am writing this article today, with hope that my experience can help others avoid the same mistakes.
In conclusion, I have found Elance to be the most complete and user friendly work from home experience available. Elance provides not only unlimited access to quality writing jobs but also the ability to choose jobs and rate of compensation. Additionally, they provide guaranteed payments, access to an enormous interactive help and FAQ section along with unprecedented dispute resolution for fast results should anyone encounter a problem. Choosing Elance as my primary source to obtain quality jobs for fair pay is by far the best decision I have made as a creative freelancer and I highly recommend them to anyone with a desire to have the freedom and fair compensation that working from home has given me.
