I can’t help but smile when I hear this song. Putting aside the fact that The Beatles are timeless musical geniuses. This song just gives off a good vibe.
I Want to Hold Your Hand was one of the first songs to catch on in America in the early 1960’s. It is said that Paul and John wrote this song in Jane Ashers basement apartment. Jane Asher was an actress and also Paul’s first high profile girl friend.
What I love about this song is that it is fun. Of course it wasn’t one of their best of most profound works, but it was fun.
It clearly expresses love. I almost get from it that he wants to take her hand in marriage. “When I say that something” suggests that he is going to pop the question. He states that the girl has “got that something”. I believe that it is more than just a fling and that he wants to hold her hand forever.
Like I said, it wasn’t one of their deepest works, but it was number one on the charts for seven weeks.
The song is more of a feel good song then a song about content. Although it is very repitive it is also full of feeling. You can feel the love in the words as their sung, and you can feel the happiness through the beat.
All in all, it’s a great song to lift your mood.
