One of my life’s goals would be to write a book. Not for fame or fortune, but simply because I enjoy writing. I’ve kept a journal since I was 9 years old, and have written short stories, poetry, and certainly a lot of articles to help satisfy my daily urge to write.
But when it comes to actually writing a book, somehow I draw a complete blank. I seem to be unable to focus on a whole story from beginning to end if it requires more than a few pages and goes beyond writing about one particular event, experience, or occasion. How the Hell do I write a book from beginning to end? I figured all my fellow AC writers may be able to give me some insight on how to write and complete a story beyond a few pages, and combine a whole plot and story that results in a decent read that I could be proud of.
Any ideas? My hugest problem is in that I keep coming up with a title, or a plot, and then being unable to stretch it out into a believable story. I would love to incorporate my own experiences in life (which are surprisingly many in my 26 years) to create a fiction story loosely based on my own life for inspiration, but I fizzle out after a few pages and can simply just not contain focus. So much just comes to mind at once, and being unable to categorize or sort anything, I go back to the drawing bored, scratching my head in utter confusion and frustration.
I’d love to add “published author” to my list of accomplishments, even if I am the only one to ever hold my book in my hands, but until I figure out how to put pen to paper and actually sort out what I’d like to write, I keep hitting a brick wall, and I am wondering if anybody has any advice for me? Your comments would be extremely appreciated, and thank you so much in advance!!!
Take care to all- Abby
