The hallways of college dorms would be dreary and dull if it were not for the tradition of decorating the dorm room door. Some students are natural at this decorating task. Other students don’t know where to begin. These tips are for the students in the latter category.
Create a monogram design on the dorm room door. Purchase plywood letters for the first name of each room occupant. Paint the letters black and decorate them with silver or gold paint. Don’t forget to write you full name someplace on the letter. This is a low-key, but classy design idea.
Create a picture frame dorm room door. Pick up inexpensive picture frames from the dollar store. Look for frames you can paint and decorate yourself. Remove any glass from the frame and tape photographs and other pictures in place. Use double side tape to attach the picture frames to the door.
Create a favorite things dorm room door. Go through a couple of magazines and cut pictures of your favorite things. Make a collage on a lightweight cork board or foam core board and affix it to the door.
Create a time capsule on the dorm room door. This will help you present a good representation of who you are on the door. Include a background of a wrapping paper that you like. On that background add baby pictures, a few high school momentos, and postcards of places you have been.
Leave a note of caution on your dorm room door. Show your wild side by criss-crossing your dorm with caution tape that you can purchase at the hardware store on online.
Invite others to decorate your dorm room door. Put a large piece of white paper on the door and a attach a bag of markers to the doorknob. Write a heading and not introducing yourself and invite others to write or draw pictures on the paper.
Note: Every door needs a place for people to leave a note in case they came by when you were out. So be sure to find a spot to add a whiteboard or a bad of paper and pen on the door.
