Thanksgiving came and might have passed for you. It’s a great time to catch up with family and friends as our busy lives take a short break for this special holiday of thanks. After you spent hours and hours preparing and cooking for this festive occasion, usually there are a lot of leftovers to figure out what to do with. The normal Thanksgiving dinner consists of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, gravy, cranberry, baked rolls, pies and many other delicious food items. I need to stop writing this and go get a snack. All of this Thanksgiving dinner talk is making my stomach growl. Ok, much better, now back to talking about all those leftovers sitting on your table. Oh, just to give you a heads up, I call dishes the next meal.
Here are a bunch of things you can do with all that extra food:
Give it to someone
It would be a good gesture to give some of your leftovers to someone who could use them and maybe drop a plate or two off. Someone in your family that is home alone or a neighbor that has been nice to you would really like that. Plus, you take up less space in your refrigerator.
You can look up online or get a family recipe and make soup from the remaining turkey. Then, freeze the extras for several meals.
Buy some fresh buns and make pulled turkey sandwiches for work.
Feed the animals
Drop a few pieces under the table for the family dog or cat to snack on.
Leave the wishbone out to dry and split it with someone.
Store and Freeze
Make prepackaged easy to heat up meals for later use. Then you can have Thanksgiving any day of the week when there isn’t any time to cook.
If you go hunting, you can put a bag of turkey in your coat pocket to snack on out there in below freezing temperatures. You might even attract some hungry deer.
Mashed Potato Ball
Make a mashed potato ball and play catch with it or the classic game of hot potato
Have a dessert eating contest with or without hands and the loser has to clean up the mess.
Take the turkey body half eaten back to the grocery store and tell them you didn’t like it and would like to exchange the leftover turkey for a whole chicken.
