Kenneth Starr was initially appointed to investigate the suicide death of deputy White House counsel Vince Foster and the Whitewater real estate investments of Bill Clinton. Starr would later receive authority to conduct additional investigations, including the firing of White House Travel Office personnel, potential political abuse of confidential FBI files, Madison Guaranty, Rose Law Firm, Paula Jones law suit and, most notoriously, possible perjury and obstruction of justice to cover up President Clinton’s sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky.
Rep. Burton led the House inquiry into the death of Vincent Foster; he was convinced that Foster was murdered and urged extensive investigation into the possible involvement of the Clintons. Burton gained attention for re-enacting the alleged crime in his backyard with his own pistol and a pumpkin standing in for Foster’s head. His is the role that GOP Representative Darrell Issa will reprise.
They impeached Clinton over nothing, and will do the same with Obama as the article “Leftist Reporter Predicts Impeachment Drive Success” indicates stating ” Hear me now and believe me later: If Republicans win and maintain control of the House of Representatives, they are going to impeach President Obama. They won’t do it right away. And they won’t succeed in removing Obama. (You need 67 Senate votes.) But if Obama wins a second term, the House will vote to impeach him before he leaves office.
Wait, you say. What will they impeach him over? You can always find something. Mini-scandals break out regularly in Washington. Last spring, the political press erupted in a frenzy over the news that the White House had floated a potential job to prospective Senate candidate Joe Sestak. On a scale of one to 100, with one representing presidential jaywalking and 100 representing Watergate, the Sestak job offer probably rated about a 1.5. Yet it was enough that GOP Representative Darrell Issa called the incident an impeachable offense.
It is safe to say that Issa’s threshold of what constitutes an impeachable offense is not terribly high. As it happens, should Republicans win control of the House, Issa would bring his hair-trigger finger to the chairmanship of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The Sestak pseudo-scandal disappeared because there was no process to drive the story forward. Had Issa been running the Oversight Committee, it would have been the subject of hearings and subpoenas.”
The GOP also has other Red Herrings to befuddle our red staters with. Fallacies in which irrelevant topics are presented include– investigations of bailout measures, the economic stimulus, healthcare, White House Political Director Patrick Gaspard failure to report a $37,000 payment from his previous employer SEIU[i] Local 1199, White House Deputy Chief Technology Officer Andrew McLaughlin had inappropriate contact with the company–Google, where he was formerly an employee.
In order to divert attention from the original issue-that of the fact the GOP has no policies for the betterment of the bottom 99% of the US population to propose there is already a site up for signing up for his impeachment as the article “The New Congress Will Consider Impeachment” indicates stating ” November will surprise everyone. They will seriously consider impeaching Barack Obama.
Growing under the radar of the mainstream media is a movement that is gathering momentum. More than one million citizens have signed petitions calling on the U.S. Congress to impeach Barack Hussein Obama. Some of the soon-to-be-elected members of Congress are amongst those who have signed up, and they are not about to be cowered by establishment Republicans scared silly of the issue.”
They know what they are doing borders on the ludicrous, but they hate Obama so why not as the article indicates stating “Impeachment is the political tool given by the Founders to correct abuse by a president. Impeachment is often misunderstood because of confusion about what exactly constitutes an impeachable offense.
Former President Gerald Ford, while serving in the House of Representatives, said an impeachable offense was “whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers it to be at a given moment in history.”
There are legions of other Obama haters. One of them is Michele Bachmann who is quoting as saying “Oh, I think that’s all we should do. I think that all we should do is issue subpoenas and have one hearing after another, and expose all the nonsense that has gone on. And it’s very important when we come back that we have constitutional conservative leadership, because the American people’s patience is about this big. So we have to make sure that we do what the people want us to do.”
In what universe does Bachman think that the people want a return to around the clock insanity as rampant as what the GOP accomplished during the Clinton presidency? Maybe Issa will emulate Burton and re-enact a gun crime in his backyard with his own pistol and a pumpkin. Of course Obama hasn’t yet been linked to any gun accident yet, but if the GOP wants it can trump up those charges.
