I was really nervous when I didn’t have a gift ready for my friend’s birthday party. I was even more nervous when I found out that I was late. We had been discussing this forever; I had promised him a great gift, something like a laptop. He would be disappointed if I didn’t give him his gift, or if I showed up late. He has been a great friend and has given me many great gifts, it’s time to return the favour. Now, I have a driver’s license, so driving isn’t the hard part, it’s trying to find a car to drive in the first place. You can’t just tell a taxi driver to go 300 miles. So there I am, no gift and no idea what to do. I can’t just go and buy a laptop and arrive at his house a couple hours later, the people at the store have to create recovery software for the laptop (which takes a long time). Even if I did get the laptop, how am I going to get there in time? I know that it’s possible, nothing is impossible these days. Then it hits me, the internet. I quickly go straight to my computer and look for some online deals for laptops. I choose a suitable one and click add to cart. I glance over to the right side of the screen, I am delight to see the words “ships in less than 24 hours”. I order the laptop and sent it to my friend’s place. I doubt it will arrive in time for his birthday party, but I got something. I then go to a car renting website and rent a decent car.
“I’m on my way,” I replied to my friend, while we were on the phone, “I got you a great gift.”
When I got there, I showed up empty handed. I reassured my friend that his gift was coming; he didn’t know what I meant. He was clearly disappointed in me after the party, and we didn’t talk after. I stayed at his house for the night, because it was way too late, and I was way too tired. I woke up late next morning; when I did wake up, I found my friend on the couch, with a brand new laptop at his side.
“Happy Birthday,” I said, while he handed me a cup of coffee.
