UPDATE: General Petraeus says the U.S. getting out of Afghanistan is “no sure thing” (read here). He also mentioned something about victory. A U.S. victory in Afghanistan by 2014 was no sure thing.
And didn’t I hear Barack Obama was going to end this war? Something about unprecedented corruption and the funneling of American tax dollars into the gaping pockets of Middle Eastern officials? (read WikiLeaks: Afghanistan Corruption is ‘Overwhelming’)
I’m elated, actually, that the Pentagon is conspiring, I mean, aspiring, to get out of Afghanistan by 2014. What a joyous aspiration. Only three more years of waging an unwinnable war; that’s if we’re lucky.
I’m also really excited the Pentagon is going to continue spending your tax dollars to fight that unwinnable Afghanistan war. $413 billion will be spent between today, and 2014. And again, that’s if the Pentagon’s aspiring actually comes to fruition. The Pentagon has shoveled a lot of shit into your ears and mouth before.
I’m overjoyed that while spending that $413 billion in Afghanistan to hunt down less than one hundred terrorists and/or Afghanis who don’t like America anymore, U.S. troops will be killed in that very hostile and rugged environment.
I’m also ecstatic that the peoples of Afghanistan will continue to suffer, and Afghani civilians will continue being sacrificed. But America doesn’t seem to care. Even when WikiLeaks shows the respectable citizens of America the gruesome effects of war in Afghanistan, and the complete failure of operations both there and in Iraq, your media is too ‘past that’ to care. That makes me happy, too. (read WikiLeaks US Embassy Cable Releases; New Classified State Department Documents Released)
Ask yourself a question. What is your brave nation sacrificing by pumping obscene gobs of money it doesn’t have into a barren land? Have you ever heard of opportunity cost? Does it matter that your country isn’t primarily focusing on terrorism at home, within your country’s borders? Your president is marking your children around the deserts looking for answers. And meanwhile, a Somali-born U.S. citizen was just arrested for attempting to detonate a car bomb during a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Oregon. Your most dangerous threat is not skipping around in Afghanistan, and is not worth $413 billion.
What is your country going to do about North Korea (read about the Korean tension here)? Does it have enough funds and refreshed manpower to handle that insanity? What about the tension in Pakistan, where there are abundantly more terrorists residing than in Afghanistan?
Are you elated the Pentagon doesn’t give a shit about what you think? Are you excited that Barack Obama doesn’t listen to the people when he makes decisions about Afghanistan and where to surge your American troops? Are you overjoyed that your president first pleases his generals before you, the American public? Are you ecstatic that millions of you don’t have jobs, yet your Congressmen and your president are willing to spend $413 billion on an unwinnable war where your young American soldiers are parading around the desert? Are you OK with how few of the Congressmen’s children are serving in the military? And yet it is they, your Congressmen, who continue to vote for this malarkey.
Are you happy there are still 50,000 troops in Iraq, and will be for the rest of your lives? Are you delighted that Iraq is falling apart and more violent than ever? Are you happy that your 43rd president and fearless immortal cowboy just wrote a book and justified the murder of anywhere between 100,000 to one million Iraqis? (read George W Bush Jr.’s New Book, Decision Points, Released: I’m Searching it for Hidden Clues)
Did you know Iraqis are humans, and they feel physical and emotional pain? Did you know that when their marketplaces are blown up, and their cities destroyed by the United States military, they suffer?
I’m euphoric about all of it. If you’re not smiling, you should be.
