Vegetable stock is such a versatile ingredient that makes soups and stews heartier and adds extra body and depth to many other recipes. I recently came across Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock and was keen to try it out. What was this product like and is it worth buying?
It cost just $1 for a 946ml (32fl oz) carton of Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock from my local 99¢ shop. The fact that this product was organic was a bonus.
Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock consists of filtered water, organic carrot concentrate, organic celery concentrate, organic onion concentrate, sea salt and natural flavours. I was pleased to see so many organic ingredients and no sign of MSG or other artificial ingredients.
Each 240ml (1 cup) serving size of Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock contains 30 calories, no saturated or Trans fat, no cholesterol, 580mg sodium, 6g carbohydrate, no fibre or sugar and 1g protein. Although Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock is low in calories and is fat-free, it is fairly high in sodium (24% per serving) and it contains no fibre.
My husband recently used the last of a carton of Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock when he was making a vegetable stew. As the stew simmered away, I was blown away by the wonderful aromas wafting out of the kitchen. I felt sure that I would like the taste of the stew and that Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock had done its job at seasoning the meal and as I sat down to eat, I was not disappointed. Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock tasted great.
I was impressed with how well Imagine® Organic Vegetable Cooking Stock tasted. It really helped enhance the taste of the vegetable stew, giving it a rich aroma and real depth of flavour. Even though this product was a little high in sodium, it did not contain MSG and if you want you can dilute some of the stock by adding extra water during the cooking process. I plan on buying this product again. It is affordable, tastes great and is versatile.
