“Imagine” if Mark David Chapman never existed. I am sure there are plenty of people, millions, who have wished that over the years. Many were friends, many were family, but most of the people who probably imagined a world without Mark David Chapman were fans.
On December 8th, 1980 Mark David Chapman shot the musician and former Beatle, John Lennon, to death outside of his apartment in New York City. Fans, friends and family were stunned, angered and truly saddened. A legend of the music world had been taken away way too soon. All because some loony, who had an obsession to kill Lennon (and had mentioned it to his wife), was able to get a gun from a friend and shoot Lennon in the back (coward style)while with his wife, Yoko Ono, by his side.
Mark David Chapman is up for parole this month from Attica, the prison he resides in, but it is doubtful he will be released, although he apparently has not made waves, and has been on “good behavior” for the last fifteen or sixteen years. He has, however, been denied parole five times previously. He has tried to make amends and has admitted to his mistake. For the last twenty years, he has been allowed to see his wife for conjugal visits which may be a reason for his “good behavior.”
At past parole hearings, Yoko Ono, Lennon’s widow, has written letters asking that he not be released. No word on whether she has submitted a letter this time.
