This Sunday is the day of the ING NYC Marathon 2010. Today the creme-de-la-creme of the running world gathers in New York.
Prize Money NYC Marathon
There is a total of $600,000 of prize money to be handed to the best runners. The number one position will go home with $130,000 in his or her pocket. second place has to settle for $65,000 and third with a miserable $40,000.
So far people from more than 100 nationalities have a start certificate for the 26.2 mile race. The ING NYC Marathon is considered one of the best marathons in the world, not just from the track but also from the spectators cheering for the thousands of participants. The runners will pass by the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan during their run. The race as usual will finish in Central Park.
Chilean Miner Runs In New York
One of the runners today has never ever in his life compete in a marathon before, but today will be his first day on the big stage. The Chilean miner Edison Pena is among the 45.000 competitors in the city center. Edison Pena was one of the 33 Chilean miners trapped in their underground cavity for 69 days. He enjoys running and kept on running within the underground caves during his underground ordeal. Once released from his 2,300 feet below ground level captivity he enjoys the new freedom. Coming to New York makes one his life-long dreams come true.
Edison Pena Invited by NYC Marathon
Edison Pena is invited by the NYC Marathon committee to be the guest of honor during the event. However Pena told the committee he had other plans, he wants to participate in the race. Being an average runner he hopes to do the Marathon in around six hours.

The NYC Marathon is one of the largest live operations for NBC every year, with thousands of employees involved in the operation to ensure the best angles on the whole marathon for every viewer. Their broadcast starts at 9:00 a.m. with interviews and pictures of the pre-race warm-up. The actual race starts at 2:00 p.m.
