Outdoor fire pits help bring life to the outdoor patio during the winter months. What better way to bring family and friends together than a fire pit.
Here is an idea for an outdoor fire pit set up that is safe and cheap at the same time. This can be done in five easy to do steps:
Tools Needed: Shovel, level, wheel barrow and a good back.
Step 1: Find a spot outside that is at least fifteen feet away from the house or as close to that as one come. It is not a good idea to build any kind of fire right next to a shed or living structure.
Step 2: If the ground is not level in the yard one may have to find a level spot or dig one out. This will keep not only the fire pit level but your family and friends as well.
Step 3: Purchase patio blocks to place as a barrier around the fire pit. This will serve as a fire prevention shield for the grass and look good too.
Step 4: Lay the patio block out in a square about an eight by eight area. This way the area will be large enough to accommodate some seating as well as the fire pit. The Block can be placed out in a circle as well depending on how imaginative you are.
Make sure to place the blocks one next to the other. If you choose to leave gaps between the blocks to save money on block purchase, be sure and add mortar to the joints. This can be done by pouring the dry mortar on the blocks sweeping it into the cracks and then rinsing it lightly with a garden hose. It is much better though to simply place the blocks next to each other leaving no gaps.
Step 5: After checking the blocks and making sure they are level then it is time to pick out the fire pit. Purchasing the fire pit is going to depend on the individuals taste. They range anywhere from fifty dollars up it just depends on what one is looking for. When purchasing the fire pit remember to pick up a small fire extinguisher to keep close to pit itself just for emergencies.
The fire pit will bring many enjoyable evenings to ones home. This is a great way to make the patio a place that can be used year round.
