Young girls aren’t usually concerned about how much money is spent on clothing, accessories and jewelry. If they like something, they like it, no matter what it costs. As girls grow into women, they can develop more expensive tastes, but young girls like things that are fun, cute and different over things that are costly – generally speaking! Girls can sometimes grow bored; what they love one minute is old news the next. That’s why an interchangeable bracelet is perfect for a young girl. It can be made in no time and have a different theme, in a split second, any time she wants! All you need is one or more bottle caps to create the unique bracelet.
Carefully remove the metal bottle cap from one or more bottles. You’ll have the best luck if you slightly lift up on the cap with a bottle opener, turn the bottle and do that again, then turn and do it again. Do this several times, barely pulling the cap off, a little at a time. Paint the entire bottle cap, inside and out, then allow to dry.
While the bottle caps are drying cut a piece of felt. The felt should be wide enough to accommodate the entire cap – or most of it. Apply glue to the underside edges of the bottle cap and position it on the felt. If you’re making a bracelet with only one image center this cap in the middle of the felt strip. If you want, you can add more bottle caps, just space them evenly across the felt.
At the end of the felt place a piece of Velcro. Put the opposing piece on the opposite end of the band. This creates a quick closure for the bracelet if you use adhesive Velcro.
Now cut circles from magnetic sheeting. Purchase the sheeting for a buck a piece and make many different circles. Cut pictures, words, letters and other images from magazines, posters, cards, catalogs, product boxes and other sources. Attach one picture to each circle of magnetic sheeting and stick it to the bottle cap. Anytime you want, just pull the old circle off, and stick the new one on. The magnetic sheet makes it easy to create the interchangeable bracelet that can have a different theme in just a second.
Create themes for holidays or everyday wear. Make circles that coordinate with your clothes or just make ones that look cool, like denim or fake fur circles. They’re fun to create and easy to interchange!
