Autism is a developmental disorder affecting 1 in 110 children and 1 in 70 boys. It is a staggering statistic yet, one we can’t ignore. We have to begin today preparing our society for the time when these children become adults. As of right now we are not ready! Parents and schools are ill prepared to provide what these children need and it is a growing problem. Families are doing the best that they can with their children, but very often it is all guesswork. The need to support these parents and families is great.
Autism Speaks is a national organization whose goal is to improve the lives of those affected by Autism. They provide family services through a team called the Autism Response Team. The ART can be contacted at any time from first receiving a diagnosis on. When a family receives the diagnosis there is always an immediate need for information. Parents can contact this team and a member will assist the family with getting connected with local resources.
To reach an ART coordinator, please call
or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Also available to parents on their website are free downloadable toolkits. One of the more impactful of these is the 100 day kit. For parents just receiving the diagnosis of Autism, this toolkit provides some wonderful and timely information. The tools and information provided on their site are good to take a look at even if you or someone you know has been living with Autism for years.
This organization provides community grants, parent support, influences legislation, and contributes funding for research all to improve the lives of these families
