Balancing work, taking care of a home, taking care of children, exercising and looking like you have it all together is a challenge. However, one little gadget has made it all a bit easier. The iPhone! Oh the wonderful iPhone. Gone are the days where parents tell children “When I was a kid I used to walk to school, in the snow, without shoes…” Nowadays, I hear my husband telling stories to our bewildered children of when he had to carry around a CD case. Gasp.
The small, sleek gadget is able to contain my hectic world. How does it do it? Let’s start with work. With the iPhone, I am able to schedule and stay on top of my calendar easily. I am able to access phone numbers while accessing the internet. Yes! I can multi task with it! I can listen to my messages in the order I wish. No more having to listen to Tommy Jones trying to sell me something, when what I really want to listen to, is a message from my boss, saying I can have the vacation time I requested off.
Ok, now the house. How does and iPhone take care of my home? The iPhone can keep your grocery list for you. While shopping for the family and trying to stretch a buck, I can use the scanner application to scan an item in a store. Then I know if I am getting the best deal or if not, where I can go to get it. If there’s a special moment that you didn’t expect, and you don’t have your camera, go ahead and record it with either camera or video options. The calendar comes into play here to. I can stay on top of all the events each member of my house has planned, and I can check the temperature instantly and know how to dress the family for the day.
Taking care of my children? No, I won’t tell you to let your child be babysat by technology. I will say that while driving your older children to school and sporting events ,there are only so many times little brother Bobby will want to watch the same movie on the car’s DVD player (or a safer bet, there are only so many times YOU want to hear the same movie over and over). For those times, an educational game may be the perfect fit. Traveling is the main area where the iPhone comes in handy with children in my world. When going to Europe and having to figure out what to pack for the flight and wanting to pack light, we thought about their music, their movies, and their games. Well, the iPhone does all of that. With iTunes, the kids were able to have all their music and a movie. A few games made the flight even more manageable.
Exercising? Ok, a big irk, in my book, is having to go to the gym and carry my cell phone, my mp3 player, and my keys from exercise machine over to exercise machine. Well ,the iPhone hasn’t found a way to hold my keys, but it has made me able to listen to my music and not miss a call. While working out and getting into the zone, I don’t have to worry if I will miss little Sarah’s school nurse calling. The call comes right through the music. The iPhone has applications that also help me track my calories!
Looking put together? Let’s face it. When you’re able to have quick access to your calendar and coworkers, walk into a grocery store and not forget a thing, save a buck, keep your kids happy in an un-fun situation, and make working out a bit easier and fun all while keeping all the above straight all with something that can fit in a pocket. That is being put together.
