With another home run for the IRS, they decided to make Wesley Snipes an example and throw him in prison for tax evasion. He failed to file his tax returns from 1999-2001 – you go boyeee!
Are you seriously kidding me? I worked for a guy in 1981 who had so many tax violations they finally decided to levy his bank accounts daily just to get their money. He never went to jail and wasn’t even close to the prospect of going to jail. Now, Snipes, who said he had a tax accountant – apparently not doing his job – has to serve actual prison time like he’s a hardened criminal.
I think we’ve got better things to do with our time then make a guy like Snipes go to prison for this type of a crime. There are employers taking wages left and right from their employees and they don’t get prison time they barely even break a sweat and won’t pay even if they are found guilty of owing the employee.
Employers like the Frontier Lodge and Maverick Restaurant owned by Ibrahim and Lucille Kara in Lander, Wy thumb their noses at government judgments against them. They won’t pay the judgments, they get to attempt to hire thugs to beat up employees who file charges against them, continue to conduct business, rip off employees and they aren’t in prison. These are actual documented crimes and still they aren’t in jail.
What about the real estate deals with the mortgage companies? Didn’t they illegally take houses away from homeowners instead of working through the issues? Didn’t they take the property then whine because they had the property? I’ve never seen the point of raising the mortgage on a family who can’t afford it, taking back the property just to lose money from either the sale or renting it to a family at the same rental rate they took the house back at – the original family could have just stayed in the house and payed the mortgage in the first place. These self-proclaimed gurus with high powered brains in the banking industry continue to spew moronic crap at a rate so fast it’s difficult to get a break from laughing at their stupidity.
And let’s not forget about those fabulous CEOs of the bank bailouts taking lavish vacations on the tax payer’s dime – they aren’t in jail. They stole millions and nothing happened to them and yet Snipes didn’t file a couple of tax returns. If I took my employers money and went to the Bahamas I’d be arrested on the spot.
Snipes gets prison time – not jail folks – there’s a difference – and these guys still live in their houses, run their businesses and take from people. I’d rather see Snipes working to pay his taxes rather than sit in prison where I have to pay for him now.
Yeah – that’s the way it works – we pay for those in the prisons and jails. We pay for illegal immigrants, we pay for prisoners, we pay for welfare recipients, we pay for the people on disability. It’s all us folks – it’s our dime paying for them to sit there and do nothing except use our money again for the appeals process.
At least with Snipes having the ability to make money in entertainment there’s a shot at him paying his own way. Don’t get me wrong – I like Snipes – I like his movies – he’s tough and can be funny too.
But seriously, what’s the benefit of having a celebrity like Snipes in prison? What’s the lesson? File your tax return? That’s a good one there IRS since everybody already hates you anyway and we’re either filing or we’re not.
I’m pretty sure the message is clear- the IRS is a big a**hole and we’re going to be sucked in eventually.
Sorry Wes – I feel your pain and not likin’ we’re it’s going!
