The young woman that the world knows as Jaycee Lynn Dugard now celebrates one year of freedom from her captors, according to Radar Online. The world watched as a seemingly-lost child emerged last year as a young woman with children of her own, the children that she had by her captor during her captivity. Onlookers quickly became thirsty to hear the details of her captivity and how such a brave young child survived it all, but onlookers have gotten little information about Jaycee Lynn Dugard’s plight. Basically, Jaycee Lynn Dugard has kept a low profile since she gained her freedom.
According to Radar Online, Jaycee Dugard’s family did ask, “Please give us the time to heal as a family, without the prying eyes of the photographers and the press.” To date, it seems that photographers and the press have honored the family’s request. Jaycee’s Lynn Dugard’s family did release video footage at one point that showed Jaycee spending time with her family, according to Radar Online. Radar Online even reports Jaycee Dugard’s mother, Terry Probyn, as saying, “We want to thank you for the love and support that you’ve given us these past few months. It is my desire to share our miracle with the world, but it has to be done on our terms.
This seems to be a fair statement on the part of the Dugard family. After all, it is their story. They endured the tragedy; they survived the tragedy. The family has a right to call the shots (so to speak) on when/how the story gets to the public. As time moves forward, though, the story moves into the background, so will the public’s interest lessen? It could, but then again, it seems that Jaycee Lynn Dugard’s story keeps popping back up in the news and then quickly going away again. Why? Do they want to tell the story? They don’t have to tell it. It’s the Dugard family’s right not to tell it.
Could it be that a book deal is in the works in regards to this story, and the story needs to stay in the news (at least a little bit) to keep the public interested? You decide.
