Your New Year’s resolutions aren’t that far off. Perhaps a gym membership will top your list. Loosing weight might be top priority come January. But is January really the best time to get a gym membership? Or should you be shopping in December before the big rush?
The answer? Shop now. You’ll get the best deals as gym’s try to reach their quotas for the year. Most of the time, you’ll be able to negotiate a better deal, and find the best deals of the year, now. Summer time is also a good time to snag a great deal as many people leave the gym to opt for the outdoors. Once January hits, it’s a new year, and with January being one of the biggest enrollment months for gyms, the deals tend to not be as great.
But before you join, make sure that you take advantage of some of the deals that gym’s have available to check out their gym. Many like Gold’s Gym, Bally’s and 24 Hour Fitness have seven day guest passes that cost you nothing. Trial memberships can save you hundreds of dollars in gym costs if you start attending and realize it’s not the right gym for you, or class times don’t mesh with your schedule. After the trial membership is over, you can then decide if you want to join. Just watch out! They will call you after the trial membership is over and get you to join if you don’t. So be prepared for that. (They tend to call–a lot).
If you are a member of Medicare or another supplemental health plan, you could be eligible for a free gym membership–no matter what the time of year is! The Silver Sneakers program (http://www.silversneakers.com/) offers physical activities and social events. The Silver Sneakers program is offered at various gyms across the country, so head to the website to find which programs are available in your area.
You can also find great deals at your participating city recreation center, YMCA, or Boys and Girl’s club.
Currently, here are some of the best deals happening at large local gym chains. Also make sure that you check out your local franchise website as they may have additional deals that are available through your state. (Most franchises are locally owned and operated).
