I just find it quite strange that Iran and it leaders would constantly keep putting their heads into the lion’s mouth. Maybe if they keep poking Israel and make them attack, then America will have no choice but to back Israel. They would then have to occupy Iran for a few years giving them a reason not only to blame the west for the suffering of its people but to now have access to the very same weapons that its neighbor has. These two countries do have a long history of fighting with each other and having a more advanced Army in Iraq may make Iran a little nervous.
Test firing a missile is something that they know would get the neighbors attention as well as America’s. Iran said Wednesday that it has successfully test-fired an upgraded version of a short-range surface-to-surface missile.” “Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi said the third generation of the Fateh-110, which means “conqueror” in Farsi and Arabic, is equipped with a high accuracy guidance control system.” ” He said the solid-fuel missile was developed domestically by Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization and tested Wednesday.” “The new version of the missile increases the weapon’s range from earlier generations.” (Unknown Author, 8/25/2010, Associated Press, Iran says it test-fires new missile, Retrieved from email@example.com). Along with that added is this new drone that was unveiled. “Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stood proudly on the stage at Tehran’s Malek-Ashtar University of Technology as a sky-blue curtain rose to unveil Iran’s first armed drone. (Thompson, Mark; 8/25/2010, Time, Iran: How Effective Is Ahmadinejad’s New Drone?, Retrieved from firstname.lastname@example.org).
Even though there is a question of the drone’s effectiveness, the effectiveness may have less to do with the drone and more about what the intent was to its unveiling. “More like the ‘ambassador of minor damage to unintended target,'” says Richard Aboulafia, a veteran analyst with the Teal Group, an aerospace-consulting firm just outside Washington, D.C.” “Iran lacks the ability to guide its drone over long distances, nor does it have the sensors – both on the aircraft and at the ground stations controlling it – to make it any kind of a threat.” “Adds Kenneth Katzman, an Iranian-military expert with the Congressional Research Service: “It is likely to have virtually no actual military value.” “State Department spokesman Crowley suggested Monday that the drone rollout is part of a push by Iran to counter a growing alliance of its neighbors and the U.S. concerned about its nuclear ambitions.” (Thompson, Mark; 8/25/2010, Time, Iran: How Effective Is Ahmadinejad’s New Drone?, Retrieved from email@example.com).
It may just the news that American Neo-Cons need to try and prod America into another useless war and if the pressures mount and Israel attacks, they just might get their wish. It would be sad to see America being manipulated into something that we do not want by a regime that just can’t seem to play nice with others. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
