Lately the new security screening procedures of TSA has been the talk of all air travelers. TSA was established shortly after the 9/11 tragedy. At first people were very receptive to the new security measures that were put in place to ensure their safety during air travel. Now over the years air traveler’s perspective changed for the worst. One complaint that I had several years ago was when they made you either finished drinking the beverage you had or dispose of it before you boarded the plane. This changed when a TSA officer made a woman drink breast milk that she had prepared for her baby. Fortunately the woman just happened to be an attorney that took action against how she was treated. Now there is a new menace to air travelers courtesy of TSA. Air travelers have the choice of either going through a full body scanner or being subjected to a full pat down search. This has caused many air travelers to become frustrated with TSA. It has gotten to be so bad that many airports are considering privatized security to screen passengers.
The new security measures that have been implemented by TSA are very controversial. The machine used to do the full body scans give off a small amount of radiation. So many people are afraid that there is a health risk involved. Now if people don’t want to go through the full body scanner they have to be pat searched by TSA officers. This makes people feel like criminals! Many people find this to be an embarrassing and degrading experience. There are many that believe that this is a violation of their 4th amendment rights under the United States constitution, which guards us against unreasonable searches and seizures. Overall this is going to affect air travel especially for the upcoming holiday season. Many people may resort to alternative means of travel such as trains, cars, and buses just to avoid the TSA security drama. I believe that as a result of the frustration of air travelers and negative press that the new TSA security screening measures will be changed.
