Does Rihanna have some competition? It looks like it! Since young Willow Smith put out her smash hit song Whip My Hair, the Internet has been buzzing that Willow is well on her way to becoming the next Rihanna of her generation. Of course, most of us know Willow has always been destined for fame, even though she’s only 10 and the daughter of Will and Jada Smith.
Everything Willow does seems to grab everyone’s attention, proving she definitely has that star power. She recently appeared on Ellen to perform – for the first time ever on television – her hit song Whip My Hair and she got mostly good responses for her performance. She’s incredibly talented, and so far shows that she’s not overwhelmed with her quick ride to stardom at such a young age, but is it dangerous for someone to be as famous as Willow is at the young age of 10? Most people know that the entertainment business can be overwhelming and toxic for adults, let alone a child. Not only is Willow known as a singer, but also she’s seen as a fashion icon because of her unique and different style, which again – a 10 year old, style icon? It still seems a little weird. Willow has been doing the Red Carpet since she was a young girl, going with her family to events but its one thing to go to a Red Carpet premiere and to have your own album, record deal and tour.
Willow recently signed with Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation, and of course, Jay-Z has come out saying he doesn’t think Willow is too young. He said, “I heard the record first before I knew that it was recorded by a nine year old and I was like, man that record’s a smash, I believe in superstars. I believe in big records and in superstars and I think [Willow] has both. She has a child’s innocence but she has a clear vision of who she is and who she wants to be,” he continued. “I can only imagine that’s how Mike [Michael Jackson] was as a young kid, he knew exactly what he wanted.”
That’s the thing, Willow may be innocent NOW but how much longer will that last, being in the music industry? Lindsay Lohan was once innocent too but after moving to Hollywood it seemed to have only magnified and add on to her endless irresponsible behavior during her teen years. It’s no surprise that with all the success from Willow’s hit ‘Whip My Hair’ it has been announced that she will be releasing her debut album “soon” and a tour is rumored to be in the works. Even though she is incredibly talented, maybe the Smith’s should have made their daughter wait just a few more years.
Do you agree? Is Willow too young or old enough for the music industry?
