The old Prospect Heights bar has been looking for a new home since being forced out of its old spot in March of this year. Brownstoner now reports that Freddy’s signed a lease for 627 5th avenue, between 17th and 18th streets in the South Slope area.
Freddy’s will sport several familiar faces when it reopens but will actually be under different management. Long time Freddy’s bartender Donald O’Finn and new manager says, as quoted on Brownstoner: “while preparing the final lease after a long and difficult negotiation, the owner of Freddy’s decided to back out.”
O’Finn joined forces with several other Freddy’s bartenders and after obtaining financing, was able to sign the lease at this new location. So now after a long and seemingly difficult journey, Freddy’s will be in Park Slope.
No date has been given for possible opening, which will be “contingent on the speed and accuracy of both the State Liquor Authority and the Department of Buildings, as well as the embrace of Community Board 7.”
So stay tuned for future updates.
