Jasper’s Porch Lakeside Restaurant in Ridgeland, South Carolina, is a favorite place to stop while travelling on I-95. If you are in the mood for real Southern cooking, Jasper’s Porch has all the favorites.
I tried fried green tomatoes and collard greens at Jasper’s for the first time in my life. The fried green tomatoes were tasty, and the collard greens were fine, although not on my list of favorites!
During a recent visit, my sons ordered off their lunch menu and I ordered the all-you-can-eat buffet. I was pleased by the variety of fresh vegetables, meats, salad, breads and desserts. Jasper’s is one of the best country cooking restaurants that is not a chain.
My son ordered his standard chicken fingers and fries. The menu also includes a variety of burgers.
I piled up my plate with the Southern green beans that are so tasty and appeared to contain bits of pork as well as what may have been black-eyed peas (although I’m not an expert on Southern cooking)!
Still, it was obvious to me Jasper’s is Southern cooking at its finest. Their country cooking buffet also included Southern fried chicken which was extremely crunchy, potatoes and barbeque ribs dripping with sauce.
One of the nice things about stopping at Jasper’s Porch Lakeside restaurant while travelling is the relaxing atmosphere. We sat on their porch which overlooks a lake teaming with turtles and alligators. It’s a nice place to stretch your legs and relax before continuing on a trip.
My boys each loved their meals and the server was friendly with a great spirit of Southern hospitality.
Located off I-95, Jasper’s Porch restaurant is a little tricky to find. Take exit 21 to get to Jasper’s Porch Lakeside restaurant, and look for it tucked behind the Comfort Inn.
I give Jasper’s Porch Lakeside restaurant 4.7 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it, especially if you are not from the South but want to experience real Southern cooking. It’s not a chain. Sometimes you want a break from the Cracker Barrel . It’s a great country cooking restaurant that is not a chain!
