The Jets vs. Ravens game on Monday could be an AFC Championship Game preview. This Jets vs. Ravens game is also the first Monday night football game of the regular season, and will present ESPN with a great opening to the season.
ESPN analysts have been making a huge deal about these Baltimore Ravens, with several of them even predicting that the Ravens will be in the Super Bowl. Then there are the New York Jets, who already think that they are the best team in football, and that confidence really grew during the 2010 NFL Playoffs. Now they meet in the NFL week 1 schedule.
Analyzing these New York Jets isn’t exactly easy, as they weren’t that good last season. Many forget that this is a team that was 7-7, and only made it into the playoffs by playing two teams that were resting their players in the last two weeks of the season. The Jets did play impressively in the playoffs, though, and it has Jets fans really hoping that this team will be even more improved for the 2010 regular season. Expectations have definitely surpassed the talent level on this team, and now it is time for the Jets to prove that they actually belong among the other elite teams in the NFL.
The Baltimore Ravens are in a very similar position as the Jets, having also finished last season with a 9-7 record and one of the Wild Card spots. Now they have improved the roster a lot on offense, and are hoping that the defense can hold up as well as usual. The Ravens had the best defense in football during the preseason, and though they were only practice games, that defense looks as strong as ever. The trick to this Ravens team, though, is that they will look to out-score their opponents, with Joe Flacco and Ray Rice ready for great seasons. Adding Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh might make this the best group of wide receivers in the league.
The Jets vs. Ravens game starts at 4 p.m. PST (7 p.m. EST) on ESPN, this Monday, Sept. 13. It will be part of a doubleheader in Monday night football, with the Chargers vs. Chiefs game following them on the schedule. The Ravens-Jets game will be the first regular season game for the Jets in their new stadium, and the odds makers have the Jets currently favored by three points in the game. It will definitely be that close, and questions about the talent levels of these two teams are about to be answered on national television.
