There are lots of different Thanksgiving crafts a person can make, but if you’re tired of the silly-looking turkey centerpieces, and the ordinary pinecone decorations, why not create something a little different this year? You can have flashy, sparkly Thanksgiving décor, that’s really easy to make, when you sit down to your home computer. Print out pictures of leaves and you’ll be well on your way to having Thanksgiving decorations that are much different than those of years past.
Many people use leaves to create centerpieces and other Thanksgiving décor but you won’t be using ordinary leaves this year. The leaves you make will be elegant and eye-catching. Start by printing out pictures of fall leaves from your home printer. Use watered-down white glue to attach each picture to a piece of cardstock. Set something heavy on the picture while the glue dries to prevent the thin paper from wrinkling as it dries.
Cut out the leaf shapes then decorate them. Align fake jewels, found at any craft store, to give sparkle to the leaves. Follow the veins of the leaves as a pattern to where you’ll glue the jewels. Instead of jewels you can glue on sequin, glitter or even seed beads.
On the back of each leaf glue a hanger. Make it by cutting a length of fishing twine (virtually invisible) or even thread. Fold it in half then glue the ends to the top, back area of the leaf. Purchase small suction cups at a craft store and use them to hang the sparkly leaves in windows. Don’t have any suction cups? A piece of clear tape works just as well to dangle the fancy leaves in the window.
There are other ways to use the jeweled leaves to decorate for Thanksgiving. Lay some leaves, here and there, all over the dinner table. Or, use double-sided tape to attach the leaves to candles, picture frames, mirror frames and other objects. Write the names of guests on the leaves and use them as place markers.
There are other ways to make the leaves, too. Purchase scrapbook paper that features leaves and cut out the individual ones before adding the jewels. Or, purchase cloth that has leaf images, cut them out, and glue them to cardstock or thin cardboard.
Leaves aren’t anything fancy, but after you bejewel them, they certainly are. When using leaves as the décor you can create a lovely, inviting look for your Thanksgiving dinner guests while investing very little money and time.
