Jim Carrey made his film debut in 1983 as Bobby Todd in the film Copper Mountain. Although the film wasn’t much to speak of it did launch the career of an amazing comedy actor that continues to entertain us still today. Jim Carrey has acted in over 30 feature films over the past quarter of a century. Check out the most recent work of the talented actor.
2009 – A Christmas Carol
Jim Carrey most recently starred in Disney’s A Christmas Carol in 2009. The film was directed by the same talent that brought us Back to The Future and The Polar Express, Robert Zemeckis. The film was animated much like The Polar Express which gave Carrey the opportunity to play a number of different parts in the movie. The list of characters that Carrey portrayed was: Scrooge (as well as Scrooge as a young boy, teenage boy, young man and middle age man), Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, Present, and Past. If you are looking for a great film to get you in the holiday spirit check out Disney’s A Christmas Carol because it is not only beautifully produced but is also a great story.
2009 – I Love You Phillip Morris
This film opens as Jay Russell (Jim Carrey) is on his death-bed telling his life story of greed and deception. Russell wasn’t always a bad man as he spent most of his early adult life as a police officer who was happily married and enjoyed playing the organ at church. Russell did spend the bulk of his free time searching for his biological mother. Everything in Russell’s life changed when he got into a car accident. Russell did a complete 180 with his life, leaving his wife and moving to Miami to live the lavish life of the gay man that he was. The lifestyle was beautiful at first because he had everything he wanted but he soon discovered this lifestyle cost money that he didn’t have. Russell’s solution was to turn to a life of con-man until he eventually gets found out and sent to prison. In prison Russell meets and falls in love with Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). Russell spends the rest of his time desperately trying to be with Morris adding a great deal of comedy in the process. I Love you Phillip Morris is not Carrey’s best work but worth seeing if you have some extra time.
2008 – Yes Man
The down on his luck middle aged man is a role that Carrey often finds himself playing and the role of Carl is no exception. Everything changes for Carl however when he attends a seminar where he is instructed to say yes to everything in his life. Although at first he believes this advice to be absurd Carl gives it a try and soon gets a promotion at work and a beautiful new girlfriend. Things could not be going better as Carl’s life continues to change for the better. The lifestyle of course was impossible to keep us as Carl soon finds out that his old life wasn’t so bad. Carrey really shined in this role as it allowed him to show off both his comedic and dramatic acting. The movie has some great laughs as well as situational comedy and is worth seeing if you are a fan of Jim Carrey.
These are just three of the many Jim Carrey movies that have been released since the early 1980’s. Jim Carrey next film coming out in 2011 is Mr. Popper’s Penguins where he plays a business professional who inherits penguins. When he decides to turn his apartment into a winter wonderland his life begins to change quite a bit.
