I was watching America’s Got Talent on NBC a couple of weeks ago with my love’s mom. There were the singers strumming away on their guitars. A dance troupe did flips and acrobatic feats. A little girl singing her heart out. Then, appeared something unlike anything I’d ever seen: Prince Poppycock. The name itself made me giggle. A character walked onto the stage with a huge troupe of performers; all sparkling and colorful. The main singer was dressed head-to-toe in sparkles and had a doll-like face. I burst out laughing. Then I heard him sing. What a lovely voice! Many times I loathe self-proclaimed freak-shows, such as the likes of (gag) Lady GaGa. But Prince Poppycock was charming.
Poppycock is different. He has a look I would describe of a history book and a fairytale PLUS a runway magazine smashed together- poof! His skin is as white as paint primer but as iridescent as a fairy godmother. His hair is soft and cloud-like. His clothes are so colonial with a modern drag-twist, complete with high heels. While he seems flamboyantly gay, silly and a bit crazy, he isn’t obnoxious. There is some quality about him that just draws you in and makes you want to give his glittery, towering being a huge hug. You want to watch him sing and dance, even if you say you don’t.
From what I’ve learned of him, John Andrew Quale was born with talent and a desire to perform to the delight of many. He has been inspired by many forms of music from rock to Gregorian chant. He has been performing since he was a child and has become a popular, much demanded act in Los Angeles. He worked hard on his way up to the top with America’s Got Talent and though he was eliminated, his success to the top 4 finalists as well as his talent will not be soon forgotten. Sharon Osbourne is a huge fan and referred to his highness as ‘the male lady Gaga’. I hope his success goes very far and while I’m happy for the winner Michael Grimm, I also feel slightly bummed that the Prince didn’t step into those shoes. He seems like he’d be an act suited so well for Las Vegas (the destination the winner would perform at). That said, I think he will still be signed up for acts there, given his crowd-pleasing ranks and glittery persona.
He sure is a talented person. However, I noticed a talent he has beyond his performing abilities: His beauty! The one thing I (and love’s momma) have been wondering is how he got his makeup to look so amazing? He must have so much packed on, but it is done so seamlessly flawless. I am curious to learn of his makeup and beauty secrets. Where did he learn to do that? Did he go to makeup school? It appears he probably uses MAC makeup, but I need to interview this glamorous performer to find out the truth!
